Nepal Police Implements Special Security Measures for 24-Hour Operations in Thamel and Durbarmarg

Kathmandu: Nepal Police has devised a specialized security strategy to ensure the continuous operation of Thamel and Durbarmarg areas round the clock.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by Community Service Centre Tundaldevi, Police Circle Maharajgunj, and Maligaun, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupendra Bahadur Khatri, Chief of the District Police Range Kathmandu, disclosed the plan. He emphasized the need to thoroughly assess potential crime hotspots to facilitate the 24-hour operation of these prominent tourism hubs. SSP Khatri also highlighted plans to bolster the vibrancy of these areas by deploying additional manpower from both Nepal Police and the Tourist Police.

Acknowledging the rise in drug abuse and cybercrime nationwide, including in Kathmandu, SSP Khatri reaffirmed Kathmandu Police's commitment to combatting these issues. He revealed that Kathmandu Police had received 3,700 complaints related to social media misuse and registered over 4,000 cases of narcotics abuse across the country during the current fiscal year.

Addressing the audience, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 4 Chair Dinesh Maharjan pledged to expedite the repair of damaged roads in the ward within the next year. He urged everyone, particularly students and parents, to remain vigilant against drug abuse and cybercrime.

Ram Prasad Neupane, President of the Community Service Centre Tundaldevi, highlighted the organization's collaboration with the Community Police Service Centre to address anomalies and social issues in Chandol, Dhumbarahi, Baluwatar, Chundevi, and Tundaldevi areas. He mentioned ongoing public awareness programs conducted by the center to tackle incidents of drug abuse and cybercrime.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ambar Bahadur Thapa Chhetri, Chief of the Police Circle Maharajgunj, emphasized the joint efforts of the police and the community in conducting various awareness programs, especially focusing on youth involvement in drug abuse and cybercrime.

Government former secretary Shyam Prasad Mainali, former Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Amar Singh Shah, and Principal of Newton Higher Secondary School Ram Bahadur Thapa, among others, stressed the importance of protecting students from drug abuse and cybercrime.
